Agrobank Unveils Pioneering Green Branch in Bagan Serai, Marking Milestone in Sustainability Journey



Agrobank has officially inaugurated its first environmentally sustainable Green Branch in Bagan Serai today, representing a significant step forward in the institution’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

The momentous occasion was officially launched by YB. Tuan Nik Nazmi Bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, alongside Dato’ Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, President/Chief Executive Officer (P/CEO) of Agrobank.

“This Green Branch represents a pivotal step in our journey toward achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050,” said Dato’ Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah. “By transforming our operations and supporting our customers in adopting sustainable practices, we’re not only reducing our environmental footprint but also catalysing change throughout Malaysia’s agricultural sector.”

The launch aligns with Agrobank’s newly articulated vision to become Malaysia’s leading financial institution contributing to a Net Zero Carbon future through innovative solutions, responsible investments, and environmental stewardship.

The Bagan Serai branch exemplifies Agrobank’s commitment to environmental stewardship through several key green initiatives. The facility features a solar system a 350-litre rainwater harvesting system for water closet usage and landscaping, energy- efficient cooling systems, and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lighting systems designed to cut energy consumption. These initiatives can reduce monthly water and electricity bills by 45%.

Agrobank has outlined several strategic initiatives to achieve its sustainability vision, including carbon offset programmes featuring EV charging stations, recycling facilities, zero-interest EV car loans, Net Energy Metering, urban farming support, and partnerships with eco-friendly product manufacturers. The bank is also expanding its investment in renewable energy solutions, particularly PV solar systems while enhancing financial support for sustainable agriculture technologies such as precision urban farming, aquaculture bio floc systems, and automated chicken egg coops.

The Bagan Serai Green Branch will serve as a model for future sustainable banking facilities across Malaysia and forms part of Agrobank’s broader strategy to align its operations with national environmental goals while maintaining its commitment to supporting the agricultural community. The launch event featured educational displays on sustainable finance options and interactive demonstrations of the branch’s green technologies, highlighting Agrobank’s role in bridging financial services with environmental responsibility.

In conjunction with the Green Branch launch, two additional community initiatives were carried out. YB. Tuan Nik Nazmi Bin Nik Ahmad, accompanied by Dato’ Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, distributed a total of RM80,988.00 in zakat contributions to ten mosques and prayer halls across the Bagan Serai region. Additionally, Agrobank awarded the Takaful Kasih Plus to three beneficiaries, with a combined protection value of RM665,000.00, further demonstrating the bank’s holistic approach to corporate social responsibility.
