Agrobank Strengthens Financial Inclusion for Rural Communities Through Its Mobile Bank Initiative
Agrobank today launched its mobile banking service as part of its initiative to enhance financial accessibility for rural communities.
According to President/Group Chief Executive Officer of Agrobank, Dato’ Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, “Agrobank remains committed to strengthening its role in rural development, with the primary goal of achieving financial inclusion. We are pleased to introduce our mobile banking service to ensure that customers enjoy banking access that is more convenient, efficient and inclusive.”
“To date, six mobile banking units have been deployed across Sabah, Sarawak and Kelantan. Generally, this service focuses on rural areas with populations ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 people. This clearly demonstrates the importance of this initiative in supporting rural communities that face challenges in accessing banking facilities.”
“In Kelantan, the distance between rural communities and the nearest bank branch can be as far as 30 kilometres, roughly a 40-minute drive one way. This situation makes it difficult for residents to obtain basic banking services. Therefore, our mobile banking initiative, which serves areas around Kota Bharu, Jeli, Machang, Bachok, and Kuala Krai, is highly significant as a key channel in providing financial services to local communities, particularly those in remote areas. Among the services offered under this initiative are cash deposits and withdrawals, savings account openings, takaful registration, utility bill payments and financing advisory services.”
Agrobank’s commitment to expanding its mobile banking network reflects its continuous effort to deliver innovative, customer-focused solutions in line with the needs of Malaysia’s rural communities.
At the same event, Agrobank also presented zakat contributions amounting to RM10,000 in conjunction with the launch of the Kampung Angkat Madani programme. The contribution was distributed to 50 selected families from several villages in Kelantan, namely Kampung Pantai Mek Mas, Kampung Pantai Kundur and Kampung Kuala Besar. In addition, Agrobank contributed another RM10,000 in zakat funds benefiting 100 asnaf students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Kundor, Kota Bharu.
The Kampung Angkat Madani programme aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas by improving access to basic amenities, thereby enhancing the quality of life for local residents. Agrobank hopes that these zakat contributions will help ease the burden of families, particularly in meeting their daily essential needs.
