Agrobank welcomes community of Guar Chempedak -Organised ‘Program Komuniti Agrobank’-



GUAR CHEMPEDAK – Agrobank today organised a community programme called ‘Program Komuniti Agrobank’ for community in Guar Chempedak, Kedah.  The community programme was officiated by YB Tuan Azman Nasrudin, Kedah State Exco of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry witnessed by some 500 locals around the vicinity of Guar Chempedak.

 

Chairman of Agrobank, Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal said, it has always been one of the Bank’s initiatives to host various community events to bring the Bank and local community closer. The community programme was held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Agrobank and Kedah was chosen as the first location as it is the state of Agrobank’s inception.

 

According to Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal, “the first branch of Agrobank or Bank Pertanian Malaysia was opened in Alor Setar Kedah in April 1970 to finance irrigation projects to accommodate double cropping for paddy planting in Kedah and Perlis, known as the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) area.”

“Through this community programme, various activities have been provided to visitors. In addition to the financial talk to educate agropreneur on Agrobank’s products and financing, ‘Program Celik Wang’ was also held for the children who attended this event. Through the ‘Program Celik Wang’, children are exposed with information on Save, Spend & Share habits as well as ways to use Buku Wang Saku, an initiative by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). “

 

“Apart from that, an advisory services counter for financial management and free health check-up as well as blood donation drive programme were also held by the Bank’s strategic partners namely AKPK and Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, Sungai Petani,” he added.

 

Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal informed that Agrobank’s total financing in Kedah stood at RM741.89 million, an impressive double digit growth of 17.31% which is higher than 5% growth recorded in 2017 for same period.

 

“This shows that the potential of agricultural sector in Kedah is still remains strong. Kedah is one of the states in Malaysia with prosperous land and wealth; therefore, the prospects for agro-based industries are bright.  Apart from paddy planting activities, downstream business activities such as food processing is also the choice for entrepreneurs’ especially young people” he added.

 

During the programme, Agrobank also presented financing offer letters to six (6) recipients with total amount of RM4,755,000 million.  Apart from that, Agrobank also presenting zakat to Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah amounting RM51,000.

 

At the same event, the Agrobank’s Team of ‘Jelajah 50 Tahun’ arrived at the community programme. The tour commenced on 24 January 2019 by travelling the states in the north and the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia to deliver President / CEO of Agrobank message to personnel of Agrobank.  The team also organised series of corporate social responsibility programmes during this trip which will end on 31 January 2019.
