Agrobank Celebrates People With Disabilities In Conjunction With White Cane Safety Day



KUALA LUMPUR – In conjunction with the White Cane Safety Day celebrated every year on 15 October, Agrobank through its flagship programme, ‘Agrobank dan Komuniti’ today honours the community of blind and deaf of People with Disabilities (PWD).

Khadijah Iskandar, Covering President/Chief Executive Officer of Agrobank said, “As a banking institution that is close to the heart of the community especially to the needs unserved and underserved communities, Agrobank feels responsible to help and provide assistance to the blind community in Malaysia by donating 100 units of white canes to Society of the Blind Malaysia (SBM)”.

The donation of 100 units of white canes was handed out by Khadijah Iskandar, Covering President/Chief Executive Officer of Agrobank to Mohammad Nazari Othman, President of SBM at Tun Ahmad Sarji Auditorium, Menara Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang this afternoon.

“In addition to the donation of white cane today, we at Agrobank are pleased to offer a free online digital marketing course that will be conducted twice a week for three months through the Zero Cost Marketing Programme for entrepreneurs registered under SBM,” added Khadijah.

“The programme will be carried out by Agrobank Center of Excellence (ACE). A comprehensive coaching classes focusing on the development of socio-economic training modules will be provided to the participants. This training programme will be emphasising on bridging the digital gap among entrepreneurs which aims to enhance their skills related to online marketing.”

“We believe by offering such courses, it may provide the community with new knowledge and skill sets to prepare them with the current business trends, thus enabling the participants to explore array of opportunities under digital business platforms to generate their own income especially during these difficult times.”

‘Agrobank dan Komuniti’ is in line with the direction and business strategy of Agrobank.  The Bank also offers various products for the PWD community in Malaysia such as Agro Nurani, the first takaful protection scheme introduced in Malaysia specifically for the disabled community and Agro Bakti, a special financing programme for micro entrepreneurs of the disabled community.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Nazari expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Agrobank for the concern and support shown by Agrobank in helping the blind community through white cane donations and free online courses especially during this challenging situation of COVID-19.

At the same event, Khadijah Iskandar also handed over Agrobank’s contribution of RM5,000 to Mohamad Sazali Shaari, President Malaysian Federation of the Deaf (MFD). MFD has provided a special sign language symbol that carries out the meaning of Agrobank and according to the MFD, Agrobank is the first bank to have such special symbol to be used as a sign language.

White Cane Safety Day has been celebrated on 15 October every year since 1964 and is held to celebrate the achievements of the blind community around the world. This celebration is very significant to the blind community where the White Cane is used as a symbol of freedom to this community
