Agrobank 50 Years Fun Run in Negeri Jelapang Padi

ALOR SETAR, KEDAH  –  Agrobank today organised a fun run in conjunction with its 50th anniversary this year.  1,000 runners took part in the 5 km run with scenic view of paddy fields.  It was a day full of fun, friendship and sportsmanship at Agrobank 50 Years Fun Run. It was a day of sporting triumph for the runners, from diverse background to run across paddy field routes with friends and family until the finish line.

At 7:45 am, the runners were flagged off by YB Tuan Asmirul Anuar, the State Exco for Sports and Youth representing the Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir together with YB Tuan Azman Nasrudin, State Exco for Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal, Chairman of Board of Director of Agrobank and Dato’ Mohd Sallehhuddin bin Hassan, the Secretary General for the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry.

With good ambience of paddy field view, runners embraced the nature concept while taking weekend breaks to enjoy the greens of mother earth and appreciate our main source of food in Malaysia.

According to Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal, Chairman of Board of Director of Agrobank, “This is the first time for Agrobank to organise such event.  We decided to organise this run here in Kedah as this is where we had our first branch and embrace our first project here in the beautiful state.  It is good to reflect that this is where it started and to reminisce our raison d’etre. Agrobank or Bank Pertanian Malaysia (as it was known then) was established in 1969 to finance irrigation projects to accommodate double cropping for paddy planting in Kedah, known as the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) area.

“MADA is the first strategic partner for Agrobank then and we are proud to be working with MADA again today for this Fun Run that celebrates our 50th year anniversary.  Together with our strategic partners, we continue to remain committed to ensure the country’s food security and support agri-businesses nationwide,” said Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal, Chairman of Board of Director of Agrobank.

Runners also took home a unique finishing medal that represented this year’s 50th Year theme. In addition, the runners and their supporters came together to support this running event and enjoyed various activities such as food trucks sales, educational booths, music and others.
