Agrobank community programme receives warm welcomes from Jerlun community



JERLUN – Agrobank today organised Agrobank Community Programme for locals in Jerlun, Kedah.  The community programme attended by some 700 residents around vicinity of Jerlun was launched by YB Dato’ Wira Othman Hj. Aziz, Deputy Minister of Finance 1 and Member of Parliament of Jerlun.

Chairman of Agrobank, Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal said, it has always been one of our initiatives to host various community events and this Agrobank Community Programme is our efforts to bring the Bank and local community closer.

According to Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal, “the first Agrobank (formerly known as Bank Pertanian Malaysia) was opened in Alor Setar Kedah in April 1969 to finance irrigation projects to accommodate double cropping for paddy planting in Kedah and Perlis, known as the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) area.”

“Through this community programme, various activities have been provided to visitors. In addition to the financial talk to educate agropreneur on Agrobank’s products and financing, ‘Program Celik Wang’ was also held for the children who attended this event. Through the ‘Program Celik Wang’, children are exposed with information on Save, Spend & Share habits as well as ways to use Buku Wang Saku, an initiative by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). “

Apart from that, a CCRIS counter and free health checks were also provided by the programme’s strategic partners which is BNM and Phrmaniaga,” he added.

Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal informed that Agrobank in Kedah has recorded an increase of 5.0% for its total financing as at December 2017 amounting RM632.43 million higher than the growth recorded in 2016 amounting RM602.31 million. 

“This shows that the potential of agricultural sector in Kedah is still active. Kedah is one of the states in Malaysia with prosperous land and wealth; therefore, the prospects for agro-based industries are bright.  Apart from paddy planting activities, downstream business activities such as food processing is also the choice for entrepreneurs especially young people” he added.

In the same programme, Agrobank also presented a certificate of appointment to five (5) new AGROAgents in Kedah. Apart from that, Agrobank also presented financing offer letter to seven (7) recipients with total amount of RM347,000 as well as the presentation of zakat to three (3) organisation amounting RM 24,300.

YB Dato ‘Wira Othman Hj. Aziz also officiated Jerlun Entrepreneur Development Initiative (JEDI), an initiative from the Jerlun Parliament in an effort to help entrepreneurs in exploring various marketing opportunities. Also present at the same programme were YB Datuk Abu Hassan Sharif, State Assemblyman (ADUN) Kota Siputeh and Puan Masaat Awadz, covering duties Agrobank President / Chief Executive Officer of Agrobank.
